A FINE CASED PAIR OF .650 (REGULATION) FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOLS,
circa 1810, with browned twist-iron round 9in. barrels, the flat sighting planes with moulded tips to top signed in script 'D. EGG, LONDON', blade fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights, engraved bands at breech, gold-lined touch-holes, borderline scroll and trophy engraved colour-hardened top-tangs, flat, slightly curved bevel-edged colour-hardened locks signed 'D. Egg', floral engraving to the stepped tails, bolted safes behind the cocks, semi-rainproof pans with rollers to the springs, walnut full-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, blued short-tailed butt-caps, square-backed trophy engraved trigger-guard bows, pineapple finials, turned and moulded ramrod pipes and horn-tipped mahogany ramrods and horn fore-end tips, both pistols retaining a strong amount of original finish throughout and complete in their maker's oak case, lined and compartmented in green coarse baize, original parchment trade-label inside lid and containing a later basketweave pistol-flask and cap-tin
